ChatGPT in Chrome can now read your tabs – and fill in forms for you
OpenAI has upgraded the ChatGPT extension for Chrome. ChatGPT can compare the pages you have open, and in Work mode it can click and fill in for you. Here is how to use it safely.
On 15 October 2026 OpenAI updated its ChatGPT extension for Google Chrome. When you mention Chrome in ChatGPT on the web or in the desktop app, ChatGPT can read the tabs you have open and use them as input.
An everyday example: you have three sofas open in different online shops and ask ChatGPT to compare size, material, delivery time and returns in a table. No more copying and pasting between tabs.
In ChatGPT Work, OpenAI's agent mode for longer tasks, ChatGPT can also control the tabs: fill in forms, send messages, download files and sort tabs into groups. Work is included in ChatGPT's paid plans but not in Free and Go.
According to reports, the extension works with all ChatGPT plans and also in other Chromium browsers such as Edge, Brave and Opera. For ChatGPT to control the browser you need the desktop app and must turn on Computer Use in the settings.
The same week, ChatGPT Voice got the new voice model GPT-Live-1.1 with more natural accents. New voices include French, German and Japanese. Swedish is not specifically mentioned in OpenAI's release notes.
How to get started
- Install the ChatGPT extension from the Chrome Web Store and check that the publisher is OpenAI.
- Start with reading only: open a few tabs and type "Compare these in a table with price, delivery time and returns."
- Let ChatGPT fill in a form if you like, but ask it to stop before Submit and check it yourself.
- Close tabs with your bank, email and health records before giving ChatGPT access to the browser.
- Use our new "Compare options" prompt in the Prompt Workshop – it also works if you paste the facts yourself.
