TipCapCut is coming to ChatGPT: describe a video idea and get a draft you can edit
The video app CapCut says a CapCut plugin is coming to ChatGPT, with an open beta in November. You describe your idea in the chat, get a draft video and finish it in CapCut. Date, price and countries are not set yet. Here is how to plan your clips today.
On 24 October 2026 CapCut, a popular app for editing video on your phone and computer, said a CapCut plugin is on its way to ChatGPT. A plugin is a small add-on that lets two apps work together. The news came on CapCut’s own X account during its CapCutWorldLA event.
You start with an idea in ChatGPT, a bot, meaning an AI you chat with. The plugin then builds a first draft video right in the chat. You can open the draft in CapCut on the web to polish, share and publish it. In CapCut’s own demo, someone uploads five short football clips, asks for a 12 second highlight reel and then adds a title with one simple instruction.
CapCut says an open beta arrives in November on phone, computer and web. It has not said which day, what it costs or which countries get it first. It also does not say which ChatGPT plans you need.
An early version called CapCut x Codex already exists. It works in the ChatGPT desktop app for PC, not in the browser. CapCut says you can get started for free, but also that it can vary by app version, account and region. If you install it, read every step ChatGPT wants to run before you approve it, and only connect your CapCut account if you trust the connection.
Good to know: you do not need a plugin to get help with video today. Ask your bot for a simple shot list (which clips to film and in what order), film them yourself and edit in CapCut as usual. This works in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot, even on free plans. Try our prompt Plan a short video in Promptverkstan.
How to get started
- Decide what the video should do: show a product, a tip or an event.
- Ask a bot for a shot list for a 15 to 30 second clip, vertical 9:16.
- Film the clips from the list and edit them together in CapCut.
- Want to try the plugin in November? Update the ChatGPT app and read every step before you approve it.
