GPT-6.1 Terra: OpenAI’s new AI that clicks and fills in forms for you, at half the price

OpenAI has released GPT-6.1 Terra, a fast model that can read a screen, click through apps and fill in forms. It is in ChatGPT Work and Codex for paying users, not in the free version. For developers it costs half as much per token as the previous version. Here is how to try it safely.

On 26 October 2026 OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra. A model is the AI engine that does the work behind a service like ChatGPT. Terra is built for everyday computer work: understanding what is on the screen, clicking through apps, filling in forms and writing clear text. This is called computer use.

OpenAI’s own examples include reading incoming invoices and entering the details into accounting software, or matching a supplier’s product photos to your shop’s catalogue and updating it. According to OpenAI, Terra does about as well as the more expensive top model GPT-6 Astra on its test of professional tasks, and finishes more than three times faster. These are OpenAI’s own figures, so wait for independent tests.

From 26 October Terra is in ChatGPT Work, OpenAI’s mode for longer tasks, and in Codex. It is included in the Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. It is not in the regular chat and not in Free or Go. You pick Terra in the model list under Advanced in the ChatGPT desktop app or in ChatGPT Work on the web. OpenAI also says the same usage allowance covers more tasks with Terra than with the bigger models.

If you build your own AI automations, Terra costs 1 dollar per million tokens in and 5 dollars per million tokens out. Tokens are the small chunks of text the AI reads and writes, and what you pay for. That is half of what GPT-5.6 Terra cost, which according to DailyAI was 2 and 12 dollars. OpenAI also says the share of factual errors on one of its internal tests fell from 53.6 to 16.7 percent at low reasoning effort.

Good to know: an AI that clicks for you can also click the wrong thing. Do not let it send, pay for or delete anything until you have approved it. Start with a small task that is easy to check, and only give it access to the accounts it needs. Use our prompt Write a brief for a computer agent in Promptverkstan to give clear instructions.

How to get started

  1. Check that you have Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu. Terra is not in the free version.
  2. Open ChatGPT Work in the desktop app or on the web and choose GPT-6.1 Terra under Advanced.
  3. Give it a small, clear task, such as entering three invoices into a spreadsheet, and say what it must not do.
  4. Check the result and approve every step that sends, pays for or deletes something.
