Strava now connects to Gemini, but only in the US: in the Nordics you can already ask Claude about your training
Strava can now be connected to Google’s Gemini, but so far only in the US. The link to Claude has existed since June and already works in the Nordics. Both need a paid Strava subscription. Here is how to start and what to keep in mind.
Strava is the app where many runners and cyclists log their workouts. You can now connect it to a bot, an AI you chat with like ChatGPT, and ask questions about your own training in plain words, for example whether your easy runs are really easy.
On 28 October Strava announced that subscribers can connect Strava to Google’s Gemini. According to Strava’s help page this is US only at launch, and Strava says more countries will follow, without a date. The same day Google said more apps are coming to Gemini, including Adobe and Peloton, with Calm to follow.
In the Nordics there is already an alternative. Since June, Strava can be connected to Anthropic’s Claude, and that link works here too. According to Anthropic, all users can connect apps to Claude, including on the free plan. Strava, however, requires a paid subscription, such as standard Strava, Strava with Runna, or the family or student plan.
The connection is read-only. The AI can read your activities, trends, gear, best efforts and the weather during your workouts, but it cannot upload, edit or delete anything. You can disconnect it at any time in Strava’s settings. Strava notes that the AI’s answers may differ from the figures in the app.
Price: the connection is included in a paid Strava subscription, and Claude connectors are available to all users. We have not checked local Strava prices today.
Good to know: AI can get numbers wrong. Ask it which activities it is using, and compare important figures with the Strava app. Treat the answers as input, not medical advice, and talk to a coach or doctor if you are in pain or injured. The Nordic languages are not mentioned, but you can write in your own language.
How to get started
- Check that you have a paid Strava subscription.
- Open Claude on the web or in the desktop app, select Customize and then Connectors.
- Select Discover, search for Strava, select Connect, sign in to Strava and approve.
- Start with a simple question, for example: how much have I run per week over the last two months? Compare the answer with the app.
