Best free AI in 2026: six services that are enough for most people
You do not need to pay to get started with AI. Here is how the free versions of ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Mistral and Perplexity differ – and when it is worth paying.
All the big AI services have a free tier that is enough for emails, summaries, ideas and simpler questions. The main differences are how much you can use them per day and which extra features are included.
ChatGPT (free) is the most versatile choice for beginners. Gemini (free) suits you if you already use Gmail and Google Docs. Microsoft Copilot (free) is close at hand in Windows and Edge.
Claude (free) is strong on longer texts. Mistral Le Chat (free) is a European alternative. Perplexity (free) is built for search and shows sources for its answers.
Only pay when you hit the limit every week. The cheapest paid tiers in Sweden today are Google AI Plus (SEK 55/month according to Google) and ChatGPT Go (about SEK 85/month); ChatGPT Plus costs about SEK 249/month. Prices are for individuals, incl. VAT, October 2026, and may change.
