Copilot leaves Samsung and LG TVs on 1 December

Microsoft is removing its AI assistant Copilot from Samsung and LG smart TVs. From 1 December 2026 it can no longer be used on the TV. Copilot stays free on the web, on computers and on phones.

Copilot is Microsoft's bot, an AI you chat with, much like ChatGPT. It has been available on Samsung and LG smart TVs, where you could talk to it right on the screen.

Microsoft now says on its support page that Copilot is being retired from TVs. From 1 December 2026 Copilot will no longer be available on Samsung and LG TVs, and it cannot be reached from the TV after that.

You do not need to do anything. Copilot remains on the web, on desktop and on mobile. According to Microsoft you can keep chatting, creating images and uploading files for free, within limits.

Good to know: if you want an AI assistant on your TV there are others, such as Gemini on Google TV, depending on which TV you have. Always read AI answers and make them yours. Don't just copy-paste.

How to get started

  1. Using Copilot on your TV? Open copilot.microsoft.com or the Copilot app on your phone instead.
  2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account if you want your history in the app.
  3. Nothing needs doing on the TV. The feature goes away by itself.
