TipGemini changes: free users get Auto, and Google AI Plus loses the Pro models on 13 November
In the free version of Gemini the app now picks the model for you. On 13 November the Pro models also disappear from Google AI Plus (SEK 55/month in Sweden), leaving only the Flash models.
Since 9 October 2026 people using Gemini for free can no longer choose the model themselves. The only option is Auto. According to Google most prompts go to the fast Flash-Lite model, while prompts that need deeper reasoning may go to Flash or Pro. If you turn off smart model selection you get Flash-Lite for everything.
At the same time Google is rolling out new effort levels: low, medium and high. They replace the previous Extended option. High gives more thorough answers but uses more of your allowance.
Google AI Plus subscribers have received emails saying the ability to select Pro models in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search ends on 13 November 2026. After that, Flash-Lite and Flash are included. The Pro models and the top model Gemini 4 Argon remain in Google AI Pro and Ultra. Old chats with Pro can continue with another model.
Prices in Sweden: Google AI Plus costs SEK 55/month and Google AI Pro SEK 255/month (Google One). Plus also includes extra storage.
Our advice: for recipes, emails and everyday questions, free Gemini or Plus is enough. If you pay for Plus mainly to get the Pro model, decide before 13 November: move up to Pro, or compare other services before paying more.
How to get started
- Free: choose high effort when the question is hard, such as comparing two contracts, and low for quick everyday questions.
- If you have Google AI Plus: find the email from Google One and consider whether you actually use the Pro model.
- Change or cancel the plan in your Google One settings if it is no longer worth the money to you.
