Gemini Notebook: now you approve the plan before the slides are made

Gemini Notebook now first shows what a slide deck or video overview will contain, so you can change the plan before anything is created. It is rolling out to all users this week, and the tool is included in a regular free Google account.

On 19 October 2026 Google said that Gemini Notebook, Google's tool for collecting your own sources and getting summaries, gets a new step when you make slide decks and video overviews. Instead of going straight from your request to a finished result, the tool first suggests which topics to include, based on your sources.

You can approve the suggestion and then steer the content and style further. If you turn on the review toggle, you can read the whole plan, called outline notes for slides and producer notes for video, and ask for changes before anything is created. For example, you can ask for a summary first or swap the order of two parts.

In a hurry? Skip the review and the slides or video are created straight away, as before.

Who gets it? According to Google, the feature is rolling out globally to everyone using Gemini Notebook over the coming week. Gemini Notebook is included in Google's free plan (0 per month with a Google account). Paid plans give more usage, such as more audio overviews and notebooks. Google does not mention specific languages, and buttons may be named differently in your language.

How to get started

  1. Open Gemini Notebook and add your sources, for example a PDF, notes or a link.
  2. Type what you want in the chat, for example: Make a six-slide deck for a customer meeting.
  3. Turn on the review, read the plan and ask for changes before you proceed.
  4. Check names, figures and dates in the finished deck before you present it.
