TipGemini free vs Google AI Plus vs Pro: which plan should you choose?
Gemini is available free, as Google AI Plus (SEK 55/month in Sweden) and as Google AI Pro (SEK 255/month). Here is how the plans differ in October 2026, and why Plus becomes less worth it after 13 November.
You can use the Gemini app for free. The app now picks the model for you (Auto). According to Google, most prompts go to the fast Flash-Lite model, while prompts that need deeper reasoning may be sent to Flash or Pro. The change began rolling out on 9 October 2026. For email drafts, recipes, summaries and simple comparisons the free tier is enough for most people.
Google AI Plus costs SEK 55/month in Sweden (Google One, checked 19 October 2026). You get twice the usage limits of having no plan, a larger context window (128,000 tokens instead of 32,000), 400 GB of cloud storage (Google also lists Plus with 2 TB), Gemini in Gmail and family sharing with up to five others.
Important for Plus: in emails to Plus subscribers, Google One says the ability to choose Pro models in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Google Search ends on 13 November 2026. After that, Flash-Lite and Flash are included. Google says each subscriber is told their date by email, so check your own.
Google AI Pro costs SEK 255/month in Sweden. It includes the Pro models and the top model Gemini 4 Argon, four times the usage limits of having no plan, a one-million-token context window and 5 TB of storage. Ultra (from SEK 999/month) is for people who need even higher limits and is rarely the right first step for a beginner.
Rule of thumb: start free for a week. If you need more storage or higher limits but not the Pro models, try Plus. If you need the Pro models after 13 November, or Argon for long and complex tasks, Pro is the option. Cancel what you do not use. Prices apply to consumers in Sweden in October 2026 and may change, so always check the Google One price page for your country.

- Use free Gemini for seven days on your real tasks (emails, summaries, questions).
- On Plus: find the email from Google One about the Pro models and consider whether you actually use them.
- Compare Plus and Pro with what you already pay for ChatGPT or Copilot. You rarely need all three.
